“What worries me about Yahoo! buying Tumblr is how it would choose to incorporate the website into its email and homepage features. One of the reasons why Tumblr is so unique is because it’s a niche market. By adding more users who don’t fit into this niche, it would make it more difficult for communities to develop within Tumblr, and Tumblr would have to change to accommodate these new users. Tumblr as a website is not the kind that you can sign up for in a day and be on your way. It is a website crafted so that you can immediately post but must spend several weeks, sometimes even months, to build a community. With new users who would not be willing to spend time growing a community, Tumblr would have to be changed, which would alienate its current users. Those users have spent time and effort to make Tumblr what it is today, and they are the ones who spend time on the website daily. A user who is checking onto Tumblr because it’s attached to their homepage is not going to be as strong of a user nor as dedicated. By changing the website to suit this new user, you would lose the strong users while building an undedicated usership.

To any website that would think of buying Tumblr, they must understand that it is a website that cannot be changed to make it more user friendly to a casual blogger. I think that many Tumblr users would be less worried about a buy-out if they were promised that their communities and ways of using Tumblr would not be changed. No one is going to mind Yahoo! buying the website and gaining a few extra million dollars per year from the minimal advertising; what we will be upset with is if a company like Yahoo! then changes the website to increase casual users and decrease dedicated users. Yahoo! would gain nothing by losing this “cool” group of bloggers in an age group they so desperately want to reach, so they must cater to these individuals by leaving the website exactly as is.” - houseoftombombadil

As much as is does sound like a load of bullshit for someone to buy Tumblr, it’s a possibility. I Personally think it should stay independent and I hope David Karp keeps a hold of it like his own child. Or we make enough noise to where such major changes (if bought) will not happen. I would hate to see Tumblr turned into an advertising dump.

We’re not a ‘hip fad group’ to be marketed to. I hate the fact that’s all we look like to businesses in the end.

So, for years, I’ve been playing games, emulated, hardware, everywhere, it’s been games. My origin stems from both the Genesis and PC games. The Sega Genesis I had was a hand-me-down, thus it was my first system. I did grow a liking to the PC with games like Starcraft and Black & White. OF the games I’ve played over the years, which ones give me THAT IMPACT to keep me wanting to play it even today? Well, let’s get to work on it…

10: Rayman

Now I think it’s safe to say that Rayman was pretty kickass when he rolled out on the Sony Playstation and Atari Jaguar. A masterpiece, if I should say. I started it out on the GBA with a slightly shoddy port called Rayman Advance, but nonetheless, it was the dip into a neat franchise. A 2D sprite based platformer, you play as the hero, Rayman, a being with no connection of his limbs to his body. He can throw his fist as such, grapple, run, fly, and on some levels, do crazy flips. The game was fun, frantic, and had some neat music. If you can, try and play this up. It’s worth it.

9: Bujingai: The Forsaken City

DAMN! If any hack’n’slash games put my perspective up high, it’s this. Bujingai: The Forsaken City, known in Europe as Bujingai: Swordmaster, is a stylish hack’n’slash beat-em-up game curiously aided by Gackt Camui, a japanese pop icon, as the game’s motion capture for character Lau Wong, who must save a princess from his possessed friend, Rei Jenron… Okay, so the plot is weak, but the level designs are… eh. But the controls are… mostly functional. Okay, it’s got quite a few flaws, but when you’re really kicking the dirt in that game, it IS pretty fun to dodge a guy’s sword, twirl with him, and then proceed to fireball him to death. PS2 exclusive.

8: Bubsy in Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind

Okay, before you get at me with pitchforks and torches, hear me out. It’s my list and I’ll list what I damn well please. Now then, Bubsy. Sort of a third wheel in the great Sonic v. Mario battle across platforms, Accolade wanted a mascot, and apparently picked a bobcat with a white t-shirt. Okay. Bubsy was also a 2D platformer with some odd quirks. First, he was fast, a Sonic thing, in some oddly sinister and nonlinear levels, also a Sonic thing. The big thing about it for me was just HOW big the levels were. I mean, damn, these were bloody huge. Bubsy also had a floating ability, as well as a high jump and low jump, which you needed to understand to get the tighter platforming done. Bubsy was also a strange and annoying character, spitting one-liners and puns all over the place. Nonetheless, for quite a bit of nostalgic value, and something I’m still willing to play today, Bubsy earns a spot on my list.

7: Starsiege

Ah, yes. The era of mech games. Starsiege was a mecha-vehicular shooter set in the Dynamix Company’s Metaltech and Earthsiege universe and line of games. it featured a robust vehicle creation system, rich storyline and some neat classic multiplayer. As well as that, it was a PC game, making it modifiable. I never exactly got to play any of the modded content, as I was interested in Starsiege late in the creation, and saw the shutdown of the master servers. A sad day indeed… Starsiege was the game I played in my prime of childhood and is just damn good. The lore of the games would later set the tone for the popular shooter, Tribes and the games that would follow it, including F2P game, Tribes Ascend. Sadly I gave my copy to my brother when he ran a game store that never got off the ground and have since not been able to play it again. Good fun, nonetheless, I suggest you give it a looksee.

6: Super Hang-On

Holy shit, what can’t i say about SHO? It was like the OutRun of the Sega Genesis… when there wasn’t an OutRun for the Sega Genesis you could play. SHO is a sort of time attack game, much like OutRun. It was fast, frantic, and just all around cool. It even does that OutRun thing of letting you pick a… song… Rehash, anyone? Oh, whatever. Super Hang-On was the shit, and popularized by the availability in the Genesis 6-Pak cartridge, a compilation of 6 games you could only experience on the Sega Genesis, which of of course was bundled with your Sega Genesis. This would eventually be replaced by the obviously best selling Sonic The Hedgehog 2, but no matter, as SHO has its own cart. Super Hang-On was a hell of a game, and still great to play now.

5: Half-Life

Rise and shine, Mr. Freeman. Rise and shine. It seems you’ve yet again been put on a Favorite Games list of some type. Whatever could this person say that hasn’t been said of your esteemed efforts? But of course, I had to put it here. And really, what HASN’T already been said about Half-Life? It was a shining beacon for Valve Software to make their place in video game history, and boy, did it. It set a standard for interactive storytelling, immersion, and other such factors to bring gamers forever knowing the company of Valve Software… Which would be even more known when Steam came, but that was for a later time. Half-Life is a good game, and you should probably play it already. Hell, grab Black Mesa: Source if you don’t like the blocky graphics, odd speech and other things, but for the love of god, play it.

4: Destruction Derby 64

Fucking Nintendo. They always manage to captivate me and make me love games that get on their platforms. Case in point, Destruction Derby 64 for the N64. There was also a PSX release, but nowhere on the same level as DD64. As the name dictates, it’s a car game involving destruction. Lots of destruction. This might be the Twisted Metal of the N64, packing a hell of a car lineup, quite the stats, and some neat tracks. Whether you were making laps until you died, or bashing cars till you died, DD64 was balls-to-the-wall fun and a blast in multiplayer. This is the highlight of my racing game favorites, and should definitely be played if you enjoyed Twisted Metal.

3: Grandia II

Oh, Grandia. Oh, glorious RPG. Oh, Dreamcast <3. Grandia II was a fantastic RPG released as a sequel to the original Grandia on the PSX… I say that, but only in gameplay sense. Grandia followed a timestamped battle format, kind of like FFVII did. Grandia II improved that, added CGI cutscenes, and a kickass storyline and voice-acting. It, along with Skies of Arcadia are my two favorite Dreamcast titles, though Grandia II also has a PC release. I love Grandia II immensely, and I don’t feel like I should tell you guys the story. Just play it for yourself and you’ll enjoy it, I promise.

2: Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg

Of all the one-shot ideas that Sonic Team has had, Billy Hatcher was the best one. A sort of platformer, Billy Hatcher involves roaming around incredible, large open levels with large eggs to fight enemies, traverse the land, and subsequently, stop evil crows from taking over the world. It had it all, my friends. Fast gameplay, smooth control, nonlinear open levels, Sonic related content, and multiplayer. It’s a dream come true and a worthy grab for your eyes. On the Gamecube and PC, but grab the Gamecube version, it’s so much better…

And now… for the #1 game of my list…

1: Flashback: A Quest For Identity

I fucking. Love. Flashback. It’s probably the greatest of games I could put on this list. It’s a hell of a game to play, and I just love it. As a story synopsis, you’re a guy who loses his memories, and must not only regain his memories, but also destroy a race of aliens, the same ones who erased his memories. Simply put, gameplay is like the 1989 Prince of Persia game, but made awesome with the ”CD-ROM game on a cartridge” stuff it boasted, by being rotoscoped and hand-drawn. It was more of a puzzle-platformer in a sense, as you’d need some hand in stealth and tactics, as well as an arsenal of equipment to use. Flashback was, is, and will always be, my favorite game of not only the Sega Genesis, but also all time. It’s just that good. I can’t stress enough how good this game is, but it isn’t meant for the simple-minded and quickly outwitted folk. If you believe you can muster up the courage and time to play through this, get it. I recommend the PC version, along with the REminiscence engine. It’s the perfect way to play this game on a modern system.

Well, I think I’ve expressed the games I felt are my more favorable. I understand if you disagree with a game I’ve chosen, but do be aware that it is my list, and I have my own reasons to enjoy it, regardless of what is said about it negatively.

To end this post off, I do have some honorable mentions to give out.

These are the games I could’ve picked on my list, but decided against. I know I’ll regret some of the games on this list, at least for that they aren’t in my top 10, but they’re all great games and very much something to consider playing. I hope you guys enjoy this.
